Description
About This Painting
Rockaway Haze is a richly layered abstract painting in deep greens, gold, and muted turquoise — built up slowly with acrylic and multiple translucent oil glazes to create a surface of considerable depth and textural complexity.
The surface holds subtle textures and tonal shifts that reward close inspection: passages of near-transparency sit alongside denser, more opaque areas; warm gold breaks through cool green; the ground asserts itself through the layers in places, creating a sense of geological accumulation. This is painting as slow, meditative process made visible.
The Rockaway Series
Rockaway Haze belongs to Norah Kennedy’s Rockaway series — a body of work that explores layered painting, overlapping planes, and the behaviour of colour over time. The series name evokes both the physical quality of haze and atmosphere in landscape, and the gradual revelation of form through accumulated layers of paint.
Where some Rockaway works are sharp and crystalline, Rockaway Haze is softer and more atmospheric — the geometric underpinning is present but dissolved, as though seen through mist or water.
For Interiors That Appreciate Depth and Complexity
This painting works beautifully in spaces where texture and tonal richness are valued — living rooms, dining rooms, studies, or hospitality settings with a considered aesthetic. The deep, earthy palette grounds a space while the layered surface keeps drawing the eye back.
Unique original artwork, hand-painted in the artist’s Irish studio using high-quality acrylic and oil on canvas. Ready to hang. Certificate of authenticity included.
